Kent Owens Mid-Ohio Update. #1 As Always

It was a wild and wacky weekend for the CMC gang at Mid-Ohio this last weekend. Traditionally, the late season Mid-O race draws a big turnout as it is a tune up for upcoming national races in September. This year was no exception, with both race groups being sold out, and drivers actually showing up to get on a waiting list Friday evening. This lead to some very intense racing, and, unfortunately, a bit more contact than we normally see on a NASA race weekend. Fortunately for me, I was able to get a (quite unexpected) sweep, keeping the winning streak alive. Once again, the quality of the brake package provided by NEO Motorsports and Hawk Brakes really proved to be the difference, as I spent 100% of my time either on track, or in the trailer officiating, leaving zero time for anything other than quick checks of pad depth and fluids. Basic pre-race maintenance this weekend was an eyeball check and gas…not recommended, but based on performance this season, I was totally comfortable putting the car on track. It’s a good thing my car didn’t need any ‘love’ as the gang spent Saturday night rebuilding the #45 Camaro of John Kelchen, spearheaded by my wife and chief Pit Goddess Peggy (she calls herself something a bit more, ummm, assertive?) after a spin and collect incident coming onto the front straight, once again proving that we start doing this for a lot of reasons, but it’s the people that keep us coming back for more. The last race for us will seem more like the first race of 2017, as our region takes a break to accommodate some big races in September, winding up the season October 22-23 at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green Kentucky. Come on by and say ‘Hi’….we’re crazy, but we don’t bite!
